Teams, tales and tips – a guide to the local game

With Germanic and Slav influences, Friuli has its own language and its own wine, available around Udine’s pretty centre. Habsburg for nearly a century, Udine is home to Moretti beer. Before the war, the head of the brewery also owned the club and had the stadium named after him. This club, Udinese Calcio, are officially Italy’s second oldest, being formed in 1896.
